Day 2 San José / Irazú Volcano National Park

Breakfast

First contact with volcanoes with a visit to the Irazú Volcano National Park, one of the seven most active volcanoes in the country which rises to 3432 m above sea level. Walk to the crater and if the view is clear, you will be able to get a wonderful view of both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Continue to the small town of Cartago, the first capital of the country created in 1562, now a religious capital thanks to the "Basilica de nuestra Señora de los Angeles", the most famous church in the country, seat of Our Lady of the Angels, the patron saint of Costa Rica, celebrated with great fervor every year on August 2nd. This sanctuary in the Byzantine and Moorish style, rebuilt in 1926, impresses with its volumes and the harmony of its wooden decorations. Drive through the Orosi Valley, one of the most beautiful landscapes Costa Rica has to offer, with a bright green that the light still seems to invigorate, often thanks to the variations of the coffee leaves.

Day 3 San José / La Fortuna - Arenal

Breakfast.

Departure for La Fortuna and Arenal.

Along the way, visit the typical village of Sarchí, renowned for its crafts made with precious and colorful woods from the region. It is also the birthplace of the "carreta", a traditional cart with bright colors and geometric patterns that have made it famous. Then stop in Grecia, considered the cleanest city in Costa Rica. Discover the church of Las Mercedes curiously built with reddish metals. Continue to the city of La Fortuna, located at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, an emblematic image of Costa Rica for its perfect conical shape.

Optional Activity: Bathing in the Baldi thermal waters. These waters, with their medicinal qualities, are naturally heated. Then dinner in a restaurant near the thermal pools (without guide).

Day 4 La Fortuna - Arenal

Breakfast.

Morning dedicated to the visit of the Park 1968, hike on the first eruption of the same year. This is undoubtedly the best vantage point when the volcano is clear. It overlooks the Arenal National Park, and it is easy to observe the rich nature that surrounds the volcano. Its main feature is the majestic, almost perfect cone. Then, visit through the 250 hectares of primary forest reserve. Thanks to the 15 suspension bridges between 5 m and 100 m high, you will be able to observe the fauna and flora, accompanied by your experienced guide.

Meet a Costa Rican family to learn more about their way of life and traditions, you will also help with the preparation of the meal. Demonstration of the use of a "trapiche", a mill that grinds and extracts the juice of sugar cane in the traditional way.

Day 5 La Fortuna – Arenal / Tortuguero

Early departure for the northern Caribbean region to reach the Tortuguero National Park. Breakfast along the way. During the drive, you will have a first contact with the lush nature of Costa Rica. Arrival in Caño Blanco/La Pavona and boarding a large, motorized canoe (collective service, flat-bottomed boat) to go up the main channel that runs along the coast to the Tortuguero National Park in the heart of the tropical forest. During about 1h30 of navigation, your guide will not fail to show you the natural richness and the great biodiversity of this area, the different species of plants and animals.

Lunch at the lodge

In the afternoon, walk in the typical village of the Caribbean coast.

Return to the hotel via the beach, where the turtles come to lay their eggs between June and September. During this period, access to the beach is forbidden to protect the animals.

Day 6 Tortuguero

Breakfast.

Departure by motorized boat for a visit to the jungle canals of the Tortuguero National Park where you can meet many animals including crocodiles, turtles, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, toucans, parrots and birds of all species. Discover the jungle by taking marked trails where possible, accompanied by your guide. This national park will offer you a discovery of the primary forest, with its lush and overflowing vegetation worthy of the Amazon. Return to the lodge for lunch.

During the months of October and November, it is the birthing season in Tortuguero. Without a doubt the most exciting season of the year. You will be fascinated by the discovery of these tiny turtles that emerge from the sand. (In optional activity)

Day 7 Tortuguero / Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Breakfast.

Return by boat to Caño Blanco/Pavona and depart for the southern Caribbean region where sumptuous beaches of black sand or white sand are bordered by the rainforest, where the richness of the coral reefs enchants all travelers. It is also the sanctuary of the sloths that you will surely not fail to come across!

Lunch and check-in for 3 nights.

Enjoy some free time for a first dip in the turquoise waters!

Day 8 Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Breakfast.A magical day through dense vegetation, where the secrets of the indigenous groups still maintain their culture and customs. The Bri Bri community is the largest indigenous group in the area, divided into several clans. Drive towards the Bri Bri region to reach the village, walk within the community, discover their way of life, the ecosystem that feeds and cares for the community etc ... Lunch of Bri Bri specialties!

Return to Puerto Viejo.

Day 9 Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Breakfast.

Day of discovery and observation through the Cahuita National Park, unique in Costa Rica for its co-management between the community and the government, for the preservation of the natural riches of the region including one of the most important coral reefs on the Caribbean coast. Walks through the trails and the many creeks and swimming stops of course! This rich tropical rainforest ecosystem is home to unique flora and fauna, and you will not fail to come across raccoons, coatis, sloths, monkeys, and iguanas. You can also observe snakes such as oropel and tamaga and birds such as sparrowhawks.

Return to Puerto Viejo

Optional Tour: Night excursion to Cahuita National Park to discover the wide variety of nocturnal animals. It's at night that nature really awakens.
